Infrastructure


 

Laboratory based support services are made available to the farmers on plant health problems. The following infrastructure has been created:

           1. Plant Tissue Analysis Laboratories

           2. Plant Health Clinics

           3. Biological Control Laboratory

            

Plant Tissue Analysis Laboratories:

These laboratories provide free advisory service on fruit plant nutrition based upon latest plant tissue analysis technologies Fertilizer schedule based on nutrient status of plants in an orchards are accordingly formulated and advised to the concerned farmers for adoption.

Three such laboratories are functioning in the fruit production areas.

Sample Grinding Units:

Two leaf sample grinding units have been established in the District of Kinnaur at Recong Peo and at Pangi in the Chamba District where primary processing of the leaf samples is done before these are sent to the main Fruit Plant Nutrition Laboratories for analysis.

Plant Health Clinics:

Four plant health clinics have been/are being established in the fruit growing areas to provide diagnostic services to the fruit growers on plant health problems based on visual and limited preliminary laboratory investigation.

Biological Control Laboratory:

A Biological Control Laboratory has been set up at Rajhana (near New Shimla) in the Shimla district for promoting the use of natural enemies for the control of pests of horticultural crops. The predators/parasites of some of the major pests shall be reared in the laboratory for further release in the field for control of the pests. This will help in decreasing the use of chemicals in pest control and thereby reducing environmental pollution.
